New York Times Lattitude Logo

Commissioned by The New York Times for their online-only column, Latitude, which delves into global perspectives on various issues, I was tasked with creating a logo that could encapsulate the broad spectrum of stories covered. The concept I devised features a classic map pin icon subtly paired with an implied magnifying glass, symbolizing a closer examination of the world. To convey the column's international focus, I incorporated the eastern hemisphere, providing a global context that resonates with the primarily western readership. The resulting logo aims to visually represent the diverse viewpoints explored within Latitude while maintaining a timeless and adaptable design for a wide range of stories.

Brisbane Airport Mascot Character Designs

Commissioned by Winkreative agency for Brisbane Airport, I undertook the creation of mascot character designs with a unique challenge: to appeal to both Australian and Chinese audiences due to the airport's frequent flights between the two countries. The Kookaburra, an iconic Australian bird, and the Sun were chosen as design subjects, each exploring a distinct cultural influence. The Kookaburra concept aimed to capture the casual and happy-go-lucky tone of Australians, emphasizing expressive body language and accompanying objects. In the Sun concept, the focus shifted to Asian cultural influences, utilizing emojis and English letter characters to convey expressions, intending to bridge language barriers through a universal visual language. The strategy aimed to enhance brand communication in the digital space, using emojis to succinctly convey customer experiences and foster a connection through pictorial translations. Despite the unused status, the concepts showcase the thoughtful exploration of cultural nuances in mascot design for a diverse audience.

Navitas Organics Packaging Illustration Concepts

Developed illustration concepts for Navitas Organics' packaging during their rebranding phase. As the brand underwent a comprehensive transformation, my task was to offer potential art direction for the product packaging illustration. I created two concepts adhering to their layout structure, although neither was selected for the final product. The ultimate decision favored a more minimalistic approach, featuring a nondescript plant with leaves, contributing to the overall streamlined aesthetic adopted by the brand in their rebranding efforts.

Industruim Process Infographic

Crafted a whimsical step-by-step visual representation of Industruim agency's creative process in the form of an infographic. Designed for their website, the interactive graphic allows users to engage with elements, revealing pop-up blurbs detailing each step in the process. The concept was envisioned by Industruim's creative director, Don Fibich, adding a touch of humor and personality to the depiction of their creative process.

HP Server App Store

HP enlisted me to provide art direction for the visual design language of their hero images, intended to represent each app in the HP Server App Store. Taking a mid-century influence, I approached the task with an abstract perspective, using simplified shapes and icons to convey the functionality of each product. While this unique take wasn't ultimately utilized, it offered a fresh and distinctive interpretation of the app functionalities through a visually engaging lens.

IDEO

I crafted an illustration for IDEO's client, targeting Prickly Pear Water packaging, in line with IDEO's directive to layer the background object over the foreground typographic treatment, reflecting an emerging design trend. Despite my initial concern about the close visual relationship between my vector style and the typography, IDEO encouraged me to explore its potential. The resulting artwork, while aesthetically pleasing, did not meet the label's requirements and was ultimately not used in the final design. I admire IDEO's commitment to pushing creative boundaries and experimenting with visual aesthetics in pursuit of innovative solutions.
